San Andreas East Fuelbreak Project
The CCRCD has secured funding from CALFIRE to complete San Andreas East Fuel break project. This project will consist of a 500-ft wide shaded fuel break following a ridgeline from Gold Strike Rd to Mountain Ranch Road near Mills Ave. The goal in developing this crucial project is to protect the town of San Andreas, including its residents, schools, government buildings and the only hospital in the county.
Currently, the CCRCD is working to get more Right of Entry (ROE) forms signed for properties that the project overlaps.
Next steps include surveying for the required environmental compliance (California Environmental Quality Act -CEQA). Once the CEQA document is approved, the next step will be to survey and finalize the treatment boundary. Please note that the treatment area will differ slightly from the project map below but will fall within its boundary. This is due to constraints such as slope steepness, habitat protections, and water protections. Treatment will be done by an insured Licensed Timber Operator (LTO) and ideally start in the fall of 2027. Potential treatment methods include mechanical removal of brush and trees (mastication) and hand work/chipping. All work conducted under the grant awarded to the CCRCD is at no cost to the landowner.
