The Calaveras County RCD partners with landowners and local agencies such as Calaveras Foothills Fire Safe Council, local fire districts, CalFire, NRCS (USDA) and Calaveras County government to respond to areas that have experienced a natural disaster such as a wildland fire incident.  Calaveras County’s local climate, topography, and fuels make our county at risk of periodic wildfires.  With over 100 years of fire suppression across the state, these conditions have led to uncharacteristically high fuel loads, which have resulted in several devastating wildfires recently impacting our community.

 

The RCD works with our partners to offer post fire recovery services and support to the community when a fire incident occurs.  We can provide site visits and Technical Assistance to help landowners assess the post-fire property conditions and provide recommendations concerning debris runoff, erosion and drainage issues, stream impacts, tree health, winter preparedness, private road and culvert damage or direct you to other local partners with this expertise. We can also help natural and working lands owners navigate potential funding resources to reduce the cost burden of implementing practices to repair and protect our natural and working lands.
