Riparian Native Plants
The CCRCD is committed to increasing the biodiversity of the native plants along our waterways in order to promote pollinator habitat, ecosystem health and water quality. In October 2026, we worked with the Calaveras Band of Mi-Wuk Indians to plant our first demonstration garden, highlighting native riparian plants, along with plants important to Tribal traditions.
Some of the plants planted were:
- Yarrow (Achillae millefolium)
- Narrowleaf milkweed (Asclepias fascicularis)
- Deergrass (Muhlenbergia rigens)
- Elderberry (Sambucus caerulea)
- California goldenrod (Solidago veluntina ssp)
These plants are crucial in supporting native pollinators such as Monarch butterflies, Pallid bats, Anna hummingbirds, and Carpenter bees.
The garden is open to the public during normal work hours. If you are interested in more information about the garden or setting up a tour, reach out to CCRCD Watershed Program Coordinator, Erin Livernois at elivernois@calaverasrcd.org.
Plants are sourced from Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation and garden made possible by the Calaveras Band of Mi-Wuk. Additional supplies donated by Brice Station and the Tryon Family.
