Become a Citizen Scientist

The Watershed Watch of Calaveras is a new volunteer monitoring program developed by the Watershed Committee of the Calaveras County RCD. Developed in the Spring of 2026, this program is aimed at collecting water quality measurements at dedicated sites throughout the Calaveras River Watershed overtime. The resources within the upper reaches of this watershed have been vastly underserved, largely due to the lack of monitoring taking place.

The CCRCD is searching for community members to volunteer their time once every three months to take these measurements. Volunteers will be trained and supported by the Watershed Program Coordinator prior to their first data collection, provided with all the necessary equipment and assigned a monitoring location.

The data collected will be entered into a database by CCRCD staff and collated into yearly reports, which will be shared with our partners working within the Calaveras River Watershed. The goal is that this data will inform water resource managers on areas needing restoration or rehabilitation and guide in prioritizing these projects.
